Dr Edmond Fernandes has been named as the World Economic Forum Young Global Leader recognizing his growing international influence in health and development policies for countries. He joins 118 Young Global Leaders from 55 countries who have made it to the prestigious global forum this year.
Dr Fernandes’ inclusion comes in the light of his expanding global footprint in curating public health policies which are enabling governments to shape health parameters and which support corporate companies in program implementation through transformational grassroot change.
Edmond Fernandes has been associated with CHD Group, Yenepoya Deemed to be University, Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health, Yenepoya Specialty Hospital, Rotary E Connect, and was previously associated with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific Region at Bangkok, US Department of State and the Atlantic Council, Washington DC.
His work in the development sector has galvanized hopes on the ground bringing transformational results and supporting policy frameworks. Having written 5 books, over 250 media articles, published over 22 research papers and having impacted six million plus lives, his journey has been nothing short of an inspiration for young people aspiring to create impact for a better world. Dr Fernandes serves as a Consultant in Preventive medicine at Yenepoya Specialty Hospital at kodialbail and as a PhD Supervisor at Yenepoya Deemed to be University, Mangalore. He works closely with various global bodies and has been a prominent voice on health and climate impact at the UNFCCC meetings around the world, influencing country governments on sustained integration of human health at the heart of climate action and policies. In the development sector, Dr Fernandes has been working with various State Governments in India in reducing the burden of malnutrition through the End Malnutrition Initiative, boosting primary healthcare through social and commercial determinants of health, building capacities for disaster risk reduction and enabling hospitals in building quality pharmaceutical and nutraceutical segments and therapeutics and scaling up ventilators and beds for critical care. He has also supported over 50,000 farmers in mainstreaming occupational health at the farms.
Along with Dr Fernandes the Class of 2026 at the World Economic Forum includes other 8 young global leaders from India including Isha Ambani, Director, Reliance Retail Ltd and Jay Amitbhai Shah, Chairman, ICC. In the class of 2026, he will be working closely with his peers around the world in addressing the challenges of recent times and what can be of shared value and learning towards aspiring for a better world. He has won several awards and recognitions at a very high level yet maintains a very grassroot and grounded approach being spiritually consumed in Christ’s love and providence.
